Playstation 3 Slim (120Gb)
The latest version of the PlayStation 3 is a smaller and slimmer version of the original PS3, and follows Sony’s general process of reducing the size of their consoles over time (as they did with the PS1, PS2 and PSP).
Of course, they do this to save costs, and Sony have cut back the features somewhat, compared to previous versions of the PS3. The original PS3, launched 3 years ago had hardware PS2 emulation, 4 x USB ports and allowed Linux to be installed. The units also played back SACD audio discs.
This latest iteration of the console – and the only version now in production – has lost the PS2 emulation completely, doesn’t allow Linux to be installed and can’t play SACDs. The USB ports have been dropped to 2 as well.
It does come with a 120GB drive though, which is higher than most PS3s to date, and the smaller form factor and cheaper price also help!
